Coral Reef Biodiversity and Management Field Trip
(15 CREDITS)

This module offers a unique opportunity for students to attend an expedition, explore the biodiversity and ecology of coral reefs, and study and critically examine the process of coral reef conservation management within the remote Wakatobi Marine National Park in Indonesia. The Wakatobi is situated within the Coral Triangle and is at the centre of the most biodiverse marine environment on Earth. This expedition provides opportunities for dive training and research diving activities. The research centre is ideally located amongst local communities with different traditions and coral reef dependency levels. Communication, both formal and informal, with different stakeholders and community representatives will form a component of the work.

Data analysis. As well as improving data analysis skills, students will disseminate the results of their analysis in an outward facing report and presentation. Placement. Although there is no maximum time recommended for the placement it should not be any less than two weeks undertaken in the Easter break. The placement must be agreed upon by the module supervisor and should be at an industry which is directly related to marine resource management, for example: Fisheries, Public Aquaria, Aquarist Supply Industries, Zoos with aquaria, Government Agencies, NGOs, Conservation Bodies, Charitable Trusts, Pollution Response companies, Research Units or Research Centres.
